Cool School Polar Plunge in Decorah May 14, 2026

Decorah High School Unified Champions will be hosting a Cool School Polar Plunge for the second time on May 14th at Decorah High School. The plunge will go in two main groups, with the first plunge starting at 11:00 and the second group starting at 12:00. The cost to take the plunge is $25, with multiple incentives from Special Olympics-Iowa for higher amounts raised. If there is enough interest from outside of the school additional plunge times will be added.

Last year the group raised over $15,000 that was split between Special Olympics-Iowa to help costs of running regional and state events that Decorah Special Olympics students participate in, and the Decorah Unified Champions group that runs a variety of inclusive sports and activities throughout the school year at Decorah High School.

Funds from last year’s event paid for items like jerseys for the Unified sports and Unified Champions group shirts. This year the group is wanting to purchase new ramps for inclusive bowling and potentially adding to the sports uniforms.

Unified Champions would like to invite the Decorah Community to join in this effort to get cold for a very cool reason. You can join the plunge fun by registering at the site below, or can donate in the name of someone who is already plunging to help their fund raising cause. When you register, you can join one of the teams already in place, or form your own team.

Decorah Special Olympics and Unified Champions Coordinator John Dunt stated, “All of the funds that are raised for this impact Decorah students. The money that goes to Special Olympics helps them run events that we take our students to, and the money we keep helps us expand our Unified Sports programs which benefit everyone in the school. Last year was an epic event, and we hope to top it this year with the help of the Decorah Community and the inclusion of Luther College.”
