Free Mental Health Training April 29 at Luther

Winneshiek County’s ERASE Coalition will be hosting a free mental health training on April 29, 2026, at Luther College’s Baker Commons. The event will run from 4-7 PM and will include a free supper and the opportunity to socialize with other participants. Topics will include QPR Suicide Prevention, Opioid Overdose Education, Iowa’s Behavioral Health System Realignment, and Your Life Iowa (how to talk about tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs). Staff members of Helping Services for Youth and Families and Regional Health Services of Howard County (RHSHC) will lead the training.

“The mission of Winneshiek ERASE Coalition is ‘Creating a healthier Winneshiek County through community collaboration,” said Brecka Putnam, coalition member and Certified QPR Trainer with RHSHC. “Mental illness is incredibly common, with one out of every five adults experiencing it each year. When community members, not just healthcare professionals, understand suicide prevention, what to do in the event of an opioid overdose, substance abuse, and how to get behavioral health help, we as a community are healthier, safer, and stronger.”
