“Scouting for Food” Effort Feeds Growing Number of Food Insecure Iowans
WAUKON, IA) – In the spirit of the Scout promise to do a good turn daily and “to help other people at all times,” Waukon Pack 64 of Scouting America, Northeast Iowa Council will be holding their collection of donations for the annual “Scouting for Food” donation drive on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Scouting for Food is Scouting America’s nationwide service project to help fight hunger. The program began as a Scout service project in St. Louis in 1985 and became a national initiative in 1988.
“There is no better way to show our Scout spirit than by participating in the Scouting for Food drive. It is a great way to provide cheerful service to our community through the Scouting values of kindness and helping other people at all times,” says Carl Bobis, Northeast Iowa Council Scout Executive/ CEO. In Waukon, local Scouts will be collecting food donations on Tuesday, April 14 from 5 p.m. till 6 p.m. door-to-door. Donations can be dropped at the Epic Wear, 11 West Main Street, Waukon during business hours the week of April 13-17.
The Allamakee County Food Shelf is requesting the following non-expired donations: canned fruit, canned soup, macaroni & cheese, baked beans, Hamburger Helper, and Spam. As grocery prices continue to rise — even for everyday essentials — many families in our community are feeling the strain. Seniors on fixed incomes, working families, and households facing unexpected
challenges are stretching budgets further than ever to cover food, utilities, transportation, and childcare.
Scouting for Food is one way our community comes together to support neighbors in need. Scouting America has 248 Councils nationwide. The Northeast Iowa Council serves 1,214 youth in six counties in Iowa and Illinois. The youth participate in Cub Scouts (ages 5-10), Scouts BSA (ages 11-17), and Exploring (ages 14-20).
